OCALA, FL — College of Central Florida freshman outfielder Jose Correa has been named the FCSAA Division I Baseball Player of the Week following one of the most dominant offensive stretches in recent Patriot history.
The Doral native was a nightmare for opposing pitchers over a four-game span, posting a staggering .818 batting average (9-for-11). Correa's elite plate discipline and explosive power helped lead the Patriots' offensive charge, as he racked up three doubles, a home run, six RBIs, and eight runs scored.
Discipline and Dominance
Correa's award-winning week began with a display of patience. In the Patriots' opening game against St. Johns River State College, he didn't need a hit to make an impact, drawing a crucial walk and coming around to score a run.
However, it was the weekend series against Seminole State College where Correa truly ascended to a different level. He recorded a hit in every single game of the series, effectively putting the Raiders' pitching staff on notice.
-
Game 1: Correa set the tone by going 2-for-4, showing his ability to find gaps and keep the line moving.
-
Game 2: In what stands as his "statement game" of the season, Correa went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. He launched a home run, scored four times, and drove in five runs in a masterclass of run production.
-
Series Finale: He stayed perfect in the finale, going 3-for-3 with three more runs scored, capping off a weekend where he seemed impossible to retire.
Freshman Impact
A product of Columbus High School, the freshman outfielder has quickly adjusted to the collegiate level. His combination of speed and gap-to-gap power, has made him a versatile weapon for the Patriots this spring.
