The College of Central Florida Patriots (7-7, 2-1) took the series from the Miami-Dade College Sharks (5-8, 1-2) when they swept the home doubleheader on Saturday, 7-0 and 8-4.
Game 1 - CF Shuts out Miami Dade Behind Hartley's Strong Start 7-0
The Patriots rode the arm of Lance Hartley and the bat of Jose Correa in their dominating game one win. Hartley, who reached 99 MPH on his fastball tossed six innings, allowing only one hit, no runs, with ten strikeouts. Correa had two hits in the game with the loudest hit being a fifth inning grand slam home run to give the Pats a 7-0 lead.
Game 2 - Beckford's Two Home Runs Lead Offense
In game two, the Patriots' Talan Beckford connected on his 2nd and 3rd home runs of the season to power the offense. Victor Martinez (3rd) and Cal Johnson (1st) also homered for CF. These three hitters collected all eight RBI in the game.
Jay Jung started for the Pats and went 5.2 innings allowing four runs on six hits and tallied eight strikeouts. Jake Meadows (1-0) wearned the win in relief tossing three innings allowing two hits, no runs, with five strikeouts.
The Patriots improve to 2-1 in Citrus Conference play with the series win and will travel to Tallahassee State College on Tuesday for a non-conference game with a 4:00 PM first pitch.
