The College of Central Florida Patriots (33-12, 11-7) were on a three-game losing streak for the first time this season and were bound and determined to not let that streak reach four games. With the help of a ninth inning RBI single by Edrick Felix and a sacrifice fly by Tre Hondras the Pats rallied once again and defeated the Mid-Florida Conference leader, Santa Fe College Saints, 5-3. The win allowed the Pats to salvage one game out of the three game series.
Kyle LaCalameto started for the Pats and went six innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, and striking out three. The bullpen of Francisco Mateo (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 2K) and Evan Michelson (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 3K) shutout the potent Santa Fe (25-10, 14-3) offense over the last three innings. Michelson earned the win to improve his record to 5-1.
The Pats fell behind 3-1 in the sixth inning after the Saints catcher, Brad Madren hit his second home run of the season. The Pats made it a 3-2 game when Kevin Kilpatrick singled with two outs, stole second base and scored on a Miguel Useche single. CF tied it up an inning later when Hondras singled and Kyler Hultgren scored on an error by the Saints left fielder.
In the ninth inning Garrett Wallace's one out single was followed by a Hultgren hit by pitch and a Spencer Stephens walk. This led to the Felix RBI single and the Hondras sacrifice fly for the final margin of 5-3. "It felt good to be able to do my part today. The team really needed this win." said CF catcher Kyler Hultgren. Hultgren finished the game 3 for 3, Kilpatrick 3 for 5, Felix 2 for 5 with an RBI, and Hondras 2 for 4 with an RBI.
