The College of Central Florida Patriots (31-9, 9-4) opened up their three game series against the St. John's River State Vikings (20-17, 6-7) on the road and came away with a 6-3 victory.
All the scoring in the game came in the first five innings. The Pats scored single runs in each of the first four innings and two runs in the fifth. In the first inning Garrett Wallace drove home Matt Cedarburg with a two out single. Another two out single by Kyler Hultgren in the third inning drove home Cedarburg to increase the Pats lead to 3-1. Kevin Kilpatrick had RBIs in the fourth inning with a double and again in the fifth inning when he singled home Jeslyn Whitehead.
CF pitchers had a total of fifteen strikeouts in the game. Nick Love (5-2) started and got the win. Love threw 5.1 innings allowing three runs while striking out eight. Troy Britts worked an inning with two strikeouts and Ben Chestnutt came in for 1.2 innings pitched striking out four. Closer, Evan Michelson tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn his third save of the season. "It was our best game of the season statistical wise with the fifteen strikeouts and it came at a good time when the team needed it most." said pitching coach Zac Cole.
