OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team's game against FSC-Jacksonville took on a little more meaning after it fell 8-4 to Seminole State College on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots (29-16, 11-10) still hold the third-place spot from the Mid-Florida Conference, but the loss to Seminole gives FSC-J (9-11 entering Saturday in the MFC) a little more life.
CF hosts FSC-J on Sunday afternoon at 1.
The third-place team from the MFC earns a play-in game for a spot to the Region 8 Tournament in Lakeland in mid-May.
On Saturday, the Patriots fell behind 6-0 in the second inning, but stormed back to within three on a grand slam by John Cassala (2-for-4) in the eighth inning.
CF could get no closer and saw its eight-game conference winning streak come to an end, which included a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
Luke Heyer (2-for-4, run scored) also contributed in the loss for the Patriots.
