Angel Gonzalez has been named interim head volleyball coach at the College of Central Florida, after serving as assistant coach for the 2016 season. Gonzalez becomes just the second volleyball coach at CF, taking over for Flavia Siqueira who had guided the ship since the program's inception in 2011.

Gonzalez brings a wealth of experience to CF as he played volleyball for 30 years, 21 as a professional.

At the age of 15, Gonzalez was singed by the Adjuntas Giants, a professional team of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation, where despite his height, 6'3", he played as a middle blocker. He played for 10 yeas with the Adjuntas Giants and was named the best middle blocker in the entire federation for seven of the 10 years. At the age of 17, Gonzalez represented Puerto Rico in the first World Youth Volleyball Championship, where his team placed fourth.

Gonzalez continued his professional career with the Puerto Rican National Team, as well as the following professional Puerto Rican teams: the Moca Rebels, the New Giants of Carolina, the Adjuntas and the Lares Patriots. He played seven years in the NORECA Beach Volleyball Circuit, participated in a world championship, and was a silver medalist in the 1993 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Gonzalez is a level one certified international volleyball coach through the International Volleyball Federaion.
