OCALA-- The College of Central Florida volleyball tournament has been canceled due to uncertainty of Hurricane Dorian.
The CF Volleyball team was set to host a nine-team tournament this Friday and Saturday, August 30-31, at Patriot Gym in Ocala, but due to impending weather athletic director Bob Zelinski and college officials have decided to err on the side of caution and safety of all student-athletes traveling from out of state and from around Florida.
"Upon looking at the weather data and seeking advice from Plant Maintenance Director Tommy Morelock, who gathered information from the Marion County Emergency Management Office, we have made the decision to cancel the volleyball tournament scheduled for this weekend," said Zelinski. "It is felt the outer parts of the storm will be impacting the area with winds and rain on Saturday evening and increasing weather conditions on Sunday and Monday, impacting returns from the tournament for all teams.
To err on the side of safety, all involved felt the best decision is to cancel the event."
The Lady Patriots will host Florida State College at Jacksonville on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. before the Labor Day weekend.
