OCALA-- The College of Central Florida women's volleyball team swept Eastern Florida State College on sophomore night at Patriot Gym.

The Lady Patriots (15-12) wasted little time in its final home and conference match of the season on Thursday evening , sweeping the Titans 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 to finish 3-3 in conference play and send its sophomores off in winning fashion.

With the win, and a loss by Daytona State College, CF solidifies second place in the Mid-Florida Conference heading into the conference tournament. CF will host the winner of Daytona State-Eastern Florida on Thursday, October 18 at 7 p.m., with the winner clinching the second and final Mid-Florida Conference spot in the FCSAA Volleyball State Tournament in November. 

Sophomore outside hitter Marina Cruz led the offense with 13 kills on the night, while also recording 12 digs, to notch her tenth double-double of the season. Fellow sophomores Carolin Santa added 10 kills and Veronica Brod Farias had nine. Brod Farias led the way at the net with five total blocks, while Maria Idjilov guided the ship with 35 assists on the night. 

CF will travel to State College of Florida on Saturday for a tri-match in preparation for the MFC playoff match on Thursday night at Patriot Gym. 


Carolin Santa has appeared in 35 matches over the last two seasons for the Lady Patriots, amassing 293 total kills, 440 digs and 6 double-doubles. The Puerto Rican native has recorded 10 or more digs in 19 matches, with a career-high 29 digs against Indian River this past August. She has also notched 10 or more kills in nine matches, with a career-high 14 kills on 2 occasions. The Mid-Florida Conference All-Academic Team member is majoring in Physical Therapy and will graduate with her AA in the spring.

Yomaries Villegas hails from right here in Ocala. She has appeared in 46 matches, averaging 3.3 digs per set, with 395 total digs in her two-year career and was named a NJCAA Academic All-American this past summer. Yomaries has recorded 20 double-digit dig performances, including a career-high 23 digs against Missouri-West Plains at the Tyler Invitational in September. The All-Conference and All-State Academic Team member is majoring in nursing and will graduate with her AA next semester.

Veronica Brod Farias has appeared in 43 matches for the Lady Patriots, recording 365 kills, 167 total blocks and 164 digs throughout her two-year career. The Brazilian native has been a rock for the Patriots in the middle, recording five or more blocks in 15 matches, including a career-high 10 total blocks against Missouri-West Plains this past September. She has also recorded 10 or more kills on 11 occasions, recording a career-high 15 kills three times this season. The Mid-Florida First Team All-Conference honoree was also named to the all-conference and all-state academic teams as well as becoming a NJCAA Academic All-American as a freshman. Veronica is currently majoring in physical therapy and will graduate with her AA in the spring and go on to play at VCU, where she is currently committed.

Marina Cruz came to CF from Uberlandia, Brazil. She has appeared in 50 matches, amassing 445 kills, 462 digs and 14 career double-doubles. Marina has recorded 10 or kills in 23 matches throughout her career, with a career-high 21 kills coming against St. Petersburg College on September 13. She also notched a career-high 23 digs against Indian River this past August. The All-Conference and All-State academic team member was also named a NJCAA Academic All-American this past summer. She is currently majoring in dentistry and will graduate with her AA next semester.
