OCALA—The College of Central Florida women's volleyball team made a statement to open up Mid-Florida Conference play, sweeping NJCAA No. 15 Daytona State College on Tuesday night at Patriot Gym.
CF (11-8), winners of seven straight Mid-Florida Conference titles, swept the Falcons 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 to start 1-0 in conference play. The Lady Patriots will now turn their attention to another national powerhouse as it hosts No. 15 Polk State College on Thursday
CF got out to an early 2-0 lead to start the match, but Daytona held a four-point advantage over the Lady Patriots for a majority of the third set.
CF battled back to tie it up 23-23 off a block at the net and would go on a 2-0 run to complete the rally and seal the straight-sets victory over the Falcons.
Outside hitter Amanda Lebioda led all CF scorers with 13 kills on the night, while also recording 17 digs to notch her first double-double as a Patriot. Lebioda is coming off a season best 15-kill match over the weekend at the Miami Dade Invitational.
The Lady Patriots will look to improve to 2-0 in conference as it welcomes Polk to Patriot Gym on Thursday at 7 p.m. CF and Polk finished tied for first in the conference a year ago. Due to the MFC point-differential rule, the Lady Patriots edged out the Eagles to solidify their seventh consecutive conference title.
