OCALA-- College of Central Florida volleyball team kept their state championship hopes alive when they bounced back against Palm Beach State College in an elimination match on Friday evening at the FCSAA Volleyball State Championships in Bradenton, Fla.
CF, the Mid-Florida Conference No. 1 seed, opened up the state tournament against Panhandle No. 2 Santa Fe College at 1 p.m. The Lady Patriots fell behind 0-2 before rallying back to send it to a fifth set where they eventually fell 13-15 and dropped to the elimination bracket.
The FCSAA State Tournament is a double-elimination tournament. The Patriots have a second life, but another loss and their season comes to an end. It will take five match wins by CF in order to make it to the state championship match.
CF started their journey back to the championship game when they faced Palm Beach State in the night cap. The Lady Patriots swept the Panthers in straight sets (25-20, 25-10, 25-21) to stay alive for another day.
Mid-Florida Conference First Team selection Buse Ene tallied 11 kills in the win, while Carolin Santa recorded eight kills and Veronica Brod Farias added seven. Setter Viktoija Sataric dished out 36 assists and libero Nayrelis Pantojas led the way defensively with 18 digs.
With the win, CF sets up a match against conference rival Polk State College tomorrow at Noon. CF and Polk finished tied for first in the MFC at 6-2 at the end of the regular season, but after the MFC tiebreaker was tabulated, the Lady Patriots edged out the Eagles to claim their seventh-straight conference title.
