#CFVB DEFEATS POLK 3-2, MOVES INTO SOLE POSSESSION OF 1ST IN MFC

OCALA-- College of Central Florida women's volleyball team rallied past NJCAA No. 16 Polk State College to claim sole possession of first place in the Mid-Florida Conference on Thursday night at Patriot Gym.

CF (13-6), ranked fifth in the state and 19th in the nation, rallied down 2-1 to send it to a fifth set where they defeated the Eagles 3-2 (25-27, 27-25, 18-25, 28-26, 15-7). With the win, CF is now 5-1 in conference play and sits atop the Mid-Florida Conference standings. The Lady Patriots have two more conference matches to play and could clinch their seventh-straight conference title if they win out.

Thursday night's match was one for the books.

It was a back-and-forth affair with Polk and CF trading off set wins. The Eagles were up 2-1 heading into the fourth set and led by as many as four points throughout the set. CF rallied back to tie it up 25-25 and would eventually take set four 27-25 after Polk hit into the net.

To the fifth we went.

CF and Polk were tied up at 4-4 before the Lady Patriots went on a 4-0 run to go up 8-4. The Eagles couldn't shake the four-point deficit and CF would run away with a 15-7 fifth-set win off Carolin Santa's 12th kill of the night. Santa finished the night with her third double-double of the season (12 kills, 17 digs).

FCSAA Player of the Week Buse Ene continued her dominance at the net, finishing with her second double-double of the week (16 kills, 19 digs). Ene has recorded 38 kills and 39 digs in two conference matches this week.

Freshman setter Julia Cardoso finished with 43 assists and 14 digs on the night for her eighth double-double of the season, while Nayrelis Pantojas recorded a season-high 25 digs on the back line. Marina Cruz (14 kills) and Veronica Brod Farias (10 kills, 4 total blocks) were also key contributors in the win.

CF will have the weekend off before heading to conference opponent Lake-Sumter State College on Tuesday. Match is set for 7 p.m.
