OCALA—NJCAA No. 11/ FCSAA No. 4 College of Central Florida women's volleyball team swept Lake-Sumter State College in their home opener on Thursday evening.

Newcomer Marina Cruz exploded with a season-high 17 kills to lead the Lady Patriots over the Lakehawks 25-11, 27-25, 25-20 to improve to 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference.

"It was great to finally be able to play in front of our home crowd," said head coach Angel Gonzalez. "We had some bright spots in the first set, but still need to make a few adjustments heading into this weekend's tournament."

Cruz recorded her first career double-double (17 kills, 12 digs), while Veronica Brod Farias also played a key role at the net with nine kills and five total blocks (three assists, two solo). Setter Julia Cardoso recorded 38 of the 40 assists on the night.

Other key contributors include: Carolin Santa (eight kills), Desiree Mack (six kills), and Yomaries Villegas-Miranda (15 digs).

CF will head to Hillsborough Community College on Friday for a two-tournament Friday and Saturday. The Lady Patriots will be back at home on October 10 when they host conference rival Daytona State College at 7 p.m.
