#CFVB GOES 1-1 ON DAY 1 AT FSCJ TOURNAMENT

OCALA--The College of Central Florida women's volleyball team went 1-1 on day one at the Florida State College at Jacksonville Tournament of Champions on Friday.

NJCAA No. 7 Lady Patriots (4-2, 1-0 MFC) faced reigning NJCAA national champions Miami Dade College in game 1. CF took the NJCAA No. 1 team to five sets before falling 8-15 in the tie breaker. 

Kristin Schemm led all attackers with nine kills and added 12 digs, while Buse Ene (seven kills, 13 digs), Carolin Santa (six kills), and Desiree Mack (six kills) were also key contributors.

Julia Cardoso Neves recorded her second double-double of her career with 31 assists and 15 digs. Libero Nayrelis Pantojas added 19 digs. As a team, CF recorded 81 total digs and 34 total assists.

CF overcame a first-set loss to defeat Palm Beach State College 3-1 (19-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-18) in game two of the day. 

Newcomer Marina Cruz had a career-high 13 kills in the match, while Santa added 11 kills and Veronica Brod Farias recorded eight kills.

CF will be back in action on Saturday for the remaining two games of the tournament. They will face Hillsborough Community College at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. match against Monroe College (N.Y.).
