OCALA— NJCAA No. 7 College of Central Florida volleyball secured its first Mid-Florida Conference win of the season when they traveled to No. 11 Daytona State College on Thursday night.
The Lady Patriots (3-1, 1-0 MFC) defeated the Falcons 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24) in what played out to be a gutsy, back-and-forth affair.
"I was happy with the way the girls executed things offensively and defensively," said head coach Angel Gonzalez. "But it was the attitude and resiliency they had that really impacted our game and propelled us to the win."
Thursday's match was originally set to be played on Daytona's campus at 7 p.m. Due to a power outage, the match was pushed back an hour and moved across the street to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
The setback didn't seem to affect the Patriots.
Kristin Schemm (12 kills) and Buse Ene (11 kills) led the offensive attack for the Patriots, while Nayrelis Pantojas held down the back line recording 23 digs on the night. As a team, the Lady Patriots recorded 89 total digs.
CF travels to Florida State College at Jacksonville on Friday for a two-day tournament. CF opens the tournament against the defending national champions Miami Dade College at 11 a.m., followed by a 4 p.m. match against Palm Beach State College. On Saturday, they will face Hillsborough Community College (8:30 a.m.) and Monroe College (10:30 a.m.).
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: CF will make their home debut on Thursday, September 28 at 7 p.m. when they host conference opponent Lake-Sumter State College. Be sure to come out and cheer on your Lady Patriots.
