OCALA--The College of Central Florida volleyball team clinched their sixth-straight Mid-Florida Conference title after defeating rival Daytona State College on Thursday evening.
The Lady Patriots, ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 5 in the nation, traveled to Daytona Beach for a chance to clinch a sixth conference title and a No. 1 seed in the upcoming FCSAA State Volleyball Championship and didn't disappoint. CF defeated the Falcons 28-30, 25-18, 25-17, 25-11 for their 15th straight win.
"I'm so proud of my team and how they came together despite adversity faced throughout the season," said head coach Flavia Siqueira who has coached the Patriots since the program's inception six years ago. "We have built a culture at CF that allows players to achieve success and become the best version of themselves thanks to the support of our coaching staff, trainers and administrators."
CF trailed DSC 17-11 in the first set before rallying to push the set into extra points, but eventually fell 28-30. That's all the ammunition the Lady Patriots needed to propel them to their sixth conference title, never trailing the remainder of the match.
It was a total team effort in the win.
Buse Ene tallied 10 kills and laid down five blocks and three aces, while sophomore setter Nathaly Alvarez recorded a season-high 45 assists. Other key players include: Alyssa Gage (8 blocks, 9 kills), Taynan Paiva (9 kills), Kristin Schemm and Rafaela Fonseca (8 kills).
CF returns to the court on Saturday as they host Gulf Coast State College at 1 p.m. Then, on Tuesday, conference rival Santa Fe College comes to town for the final conference match of the season. Match is set for 7 p.m. This is the team's Dig Pink match and all proceeds from the match will go to a former CF player's mother who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Admission is just $3 at the door, but donations will also be accepted.
