CF downs FSCJ in straight sets

OCALA--The College of Central Florida women's volleyball team continues to roll in conference as they defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville in straight sets Tuesday night at Patriot Gym.

The Lady Patriots are now 3-0 in Mid-Florida Conference play, 12-4 overall, as they defeated the Blue Wave 25-15, 25-14, 25-16. CF is tied atop the conference standings with Daytona State College, who they will face on Tuesday night at CF.

"The score didn't show it, but FSCJ is a good volleyball team," said head coach Flavia Siqueira. "They just came off a big 3-0 win over Indian River so for us to come in and beat them in straight sets was a good win for our team."

CF's offensive attack appeared too much for FSCJ.

Sophomore setter Rafaela Fonseca led the Lady Patriot offense with 14 kills, while Alyssa Gage added 10 and newcomer Kristin Schemm had nine.

Nathaly Alvarez, who was named this week's FCSAA Volleyball Player of the Week for a second time, recorded her sixth double-double of the season contributing 16 assists and 12 digs. Ivona Vojvodic added 18 assists.

The Lady Patriots will be back at home on Thursday as they host conference opponent St. Johns River State College at 7 p.m.
