Volleyball takes reigning national champs to 5 sets before falling

OCALA--The College of Central Florida volleyball team gave two-time defending champion Blinn (Tex.) College all it wanted in the opening round of the NJCAA National Tournament in Casper, Wyo.

No. 9 Blinn, though, was able to pull out a 25-23, 23-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-8 win over the Patriots, who battled from down one set on two occasions, but couldn't get over the hump.

The loss drops CF (26-13) into the ninth-place quarterfinals against Frank Phillips College on Friday at 2 p.m.

Nathaly Alvarez (15 kills, 31 assists), Ashley Hagood (18 assists), Heather Bowersox (seven kills), Rafaela Fonseca (19 digs, 13 kills) and Julia Azevedo (14 kills) led the way for CF, the No. 8 seed.
