Volleyball playing for District P Championship after defeating IRSC

GULF BREEZE- The College of Central Florida volleyball team kept its bid for a berth to the NJCAA National Tournament alive Sunday afternoon after defeating Indian River in five sets.

After seeing Indian River State battle back to tie the match at two sets each, the Patriots picked up a 15-10 win in the tiebreaker to claim third place in the state.

With the win, CF advances to the District P Qualifier on Tuesday night against Faulkner State in Mobile, Ala., with a trip to the national tournament on the line.

The Patriots, who battled back with a pair of wins following a loss to Polk State on Saturday morning, will look to advance to the national tournament for the fourth time in five years.

CF lost in last year's third-place game to Polk State, but a 10-5 run to start the tiebreaker helped silence any more thoughts of a comeback by the Pioneers.

The Patriots improved to 5-6 in matches that went five sets this season and won for the second time in three outings where the match went the distance.

CF also improved to 2-0 on the year against IRSC. Earlier this season, the Patriots won in four sets over the Pioneers.
