Volleyball hopes of NJCAA bid still alive after defeating Daytona

GULF BREEZE- The College of Central Florida volleyball team stayed alive in the Region 8 FCSAA Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

After dropping a four-set match to Polk State that ended their dreams of a state championship, the Patriots battled back against Mid-Florida Conference rival Daytona State.

The Patriots downed Daytona State 25-16, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16 in an elimination match.

With the win, CF advances to the third-place match against Indian River State on Sunday at noon.

The winner advances to Bay Minette, Ala., for a match against an Alabama qualifier for the District P championship, which carries with it an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament.

Last season, the Patriots advanced to third-place match, but lost to Polk State.

This time around, CF will try to right the ship and qualify for the national tournament for the fourth time in five season.

The Patriots battled back after losing for the first time in three matches this season against Polk State with their third win in as many tries against Daytona State on the year.

CF has never lost to a Mid-Florida Conference opponent at the state tournament and improved to 7-1 all-time against DSC.
