GULF BREEZE- The College of Central Florida volleyball team is one game away from a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.
The Patriots downed rival Santa Fe College for the second time this season, with a 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 win on Friday morning.
With the win, CF will face Polk State on Saturday morning at 11 for an automatic bid to the national tournament and trip to the state championship game.
It was the second straight win for the Patriots over the Saints this season and enabled them to improve to 2-0 all-time vs. SFC at the state tournament.
CF's second straight win over the Saints this season marked the first time in series history that a team won consecutive matches in the rivarly.
The Patriots now lead the series 4-2 with the Saints.
CF now turns its attention to Polk State, a team it is 2-0 against this season.
In the first meeting between the schools this season, the Patriots won in four sets, before a five-set victory in Winter Haven.
A year ago, Polk State knocked off CF with a trip to the national tournament on the line.
If CF wins Saturday, it would clinch its fourth trip to the state title match and first in two years.
A loss to the Vikings and the best the Patriots could do is stay alive for the third place finish in Region 8, which would force them to play a play-in game for a spot in the national tournament.
The victory gave CF a 4-1 record in opening round matches at state.
