OCALA-- The College of Central Florida volleyball program is beginning to reap the benefits of an impressive turnaround.
After a 1-3 start with just one returning player from last season, the Patriots have hit their stride with three consecutive victories, which has enabled them to move up to No. 4 in the state poll.
Individually, CF took home two of the three weekly awards from the FCSAA.
Silva recorded double-digit kills and posted a hitting percentage of .500 or better in each match, as CF knocked off three teams teams ranked among the top six in the state.
For the week, Silva averaged 3.8 points per set and 3.2 kills. Silva is currently fifth in the nation in hitting percentage (.431) and she produced matching efforts of 14 kills against Polk State and Palm Beach State.
Alvarez, meanwhile, has been consistent through the season for the youthful Patriots.
She leads Region 8 with 277 assists and assists per set (11.1). Alvarez's efforts have her fourth nationally in assists per set. This past week, she averaged 11.9 assists and 1.8 digs over CF's three matches.
Against Polk State, the team that knocked CF out of the state tournament last year, Alvarez recorded a season-high 49 assists and then added 46 as she helped her team avenge an earlier loss to Palm Beach State.
