CF Volleyball rests starters vs Manatee

SARASOTA- An undermanned College of Central Florida volleyball team gave a strong showing against State College of Florida Manatee on Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots (25-8) rested several key players, but battled hard, before seeing SCF pick up a 25-17, 25-23, 25-21 win.

"I was proud how hard our non-starters played against the level of competition they faced," said CF coach Flavia Siqueira.

CF, which played just seven players during the match, was led by Joana Chaclan (eight kills), Shanotta Bawek (eight kills), Yara Rodriguez (11 digs), Joana Chaclan (11 digs) and Kelley Wisley (26 assists).

SCF, winners of 18 straight matches, improved to 23-4 on the season.

The two teams will face off in the opening round of the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament in Jacksonville on November 6. CF has eliminated the Manatees from the state tournament in each of the past two seasons.

The Patriots will have Sophomore Night on Wednesday when they host Polk State at 4 p.m. and Indian River at 8 p.m.
