OCALA-- A pair of record-breaking performances lifted College of Central Florida freshman Julymar Otero to her third FCSAA Player of the Week honor of the season.
After surpassing the all-time single match record for kills with 26 against Santa Fe, Otero did even better with 32 kills in a key win over Daytona State.
Otero, who earlier this season became the first CF freshman to win player of the week honors since Vanessa Benke in 2011, is the only Patriot volleyball player to ever win player of the week on three occasions both in a career and in a season.
She passed the previous record of 25 kills held by Benke and Raveen Golston, before moving past her own mark in the win over DSC.
The victories on the road over the Saints and Falcons enabled CF to maintain a firm grasp on the No. 2 spot in the state coaches poll.
Led by Otero, CF has won five straight matches, with three of them coming against nationally ranked opponents.
Otero's efforts also enabled the Patriots to keep their unbeaten road record all-time against Mid-Florida Conference opponents.
