College of Central Florida freshman standout Julymar Otero continues to make a name for herself. For the second time this season, Otero has earned FCSAA State Volleyball Player of the Week.
In earning the honor for the second time this season, she finished with 21 kills and 12 digs in the win over Daytona State last Tuesday night at Patriot Gym.
In a match which pitted two teams ranked in the NJCAA Top 10 and the among the top three in the state, Otero made just three errors and upped her kill total to 41 in two matches this season against DSC.
Otero had six kills in the final set of the five-set win for CF and helped avenge an earlier loss to the Falcons.
From there, Otero was dominant in a win over Lake Sumter State, as she finished with 13 kills and committed just one error. She also added three digs, as the Patriots swept the Lakehawks.
Led by Otero, CF has moved up to No. 2 in the FCSAA Coaches Poll, as it surpassed conference rival Daytona State and now trail only undefeated Miami Dade in the rankings.
CF hosts FSC-Jacksonville in a conference match tonight at 7 p.m.
The Patriots are 14-0 all-time against the Blue Wave and defeated FSC-J in each of the last three seasons at the state tournament.
CF won an earlier match this season in five against FSC-J, rallying from down two sets to one and from a 24-19 deficit in the fourth set with a 7-0 run to squelch a match point chance for the Blue Wave.
Currently, CF is 2-0 in the Mid-Florida Conference, tied for the top spot with Santa Fe.
Santa Fe faces Daytona State tonight, while Lake-Sumter State takes on St. Johns River in other MFC matchups tonight.
