OCALA-- The College of Central Florida women's basketball team mounted a comeback in the final minute to rally past Indian River State College 76-75 on Thursday night at Patriot Gym.
CF found themselves down by 15 points after the first quarter, but outscored the Pioneers 21-5 in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into the half. The Patriots came marching out of the gates in the third quarter, forcing three consecutive turnovers for a 6-0 run to start the second half.
But the Pioneers countered with a comeback of their own.
With the help of some clutch 3-pointers, IRSC carried a 10-point lead with one minute remaining in the game, but the Patriots were not through.
CF pulled to within one, 75-74, with 30 seconds remaining and Desiree Mack powered her way into the paint with 24.2 seconds remaining to drop in the go-ahead bucket and complete the come-from-behind victory.
Mack finished the night with her seventh double-double of the season, recording 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Four other Patriot players finished the night in double-figures, including: N'Mya Pierce (13), Tiahna Sears (11), Raquel Tolbert (10), and Deja Jackson (10).
CF will be back in action on Wednesday, January 9 when it opens up Mid-Florida Conference play with a doubleheader against Florida State College at Jacksonville. The women will tipoff at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m.
