OCALA-- The College of Central Florida women's basketball team secured an electrifying win over Palm Beach State College, rallying from down 13 points at the half to defeat the Panthers 66-64 on Tuesday night at Patriot Gym.
CF went into the half down 40-27 and trailed by as many as 16 points. When all looked bleak, the Patriots came marching back.
CF opened up the second half with a 10-0 run and held Palm Beach to just eight points in the third quarter. The Lady Patriots carried the momentum into the fourth quarter, holding a seven-point lead with five minutes to play.
Palm Beach countered with a rally of its own, pulling ahead 62-61 with 1:50 left to play off a Alma Danielsson 3-pointer.
With both teams in the double bonus with less than minute to go, every foul became crucial.
The Lady Patriot defense applied the pressure and Jada Francois Lubin forced a turnover and drew the foul with 45 seconds remaining. Francois Lubin went one-for-two at the line to tie things up 62-62. With 30 seconds to go, Palm Beach fouled point guard Haylie Holloway. Holloway drained her two free throws to put CF ahead 64-62 and secure the go-ahead win.
As a team, CF shot 35 percent from the field and held Palm Beach to just 25 percent shooting in the second half.
Three Lady Patriot players finished the night in double figures.
Freshman Raquel Tolbert led all scorers with 12 points on the night, while forward Desiree Mack recorded her sixth double-double of the season (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Tiahna Sears came off the bench to record 10 points and grab nine rebounds.
CF will take the court in its final game of 2018 when it hosts St. Petersburg College on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
