OCALA-- The College of Central Florida athletic department has appointed Andrea Mize as the next head women's basketball coach effective June 18. Mize is the seventh head coach to lead the Lady Patriots. CF Athletic Director Bob Zelinski looks forward to having Mize on staff to rejuvenate the women's basketball program.
"We are very excited that Andrea has accepted the challenge to lead the CF women's basketball program," said Zelinski. "We have had tremendous success through the years and have every confidence that Andrea will continue that level of success. With her passion for the game, she will bring a strong work ethic, leadership and expertise to recruit talented student-athletes and bring out the best in them, on and off the court."
Mize comes to CF by way of Martin Methodist College where she has served as assistant coach for the past three years. The Greenwood, Ind. native helped lead the RedHawks to its first-ever regular season conference title this past season, as well as secure three-straight NAIA National Tournament appearances (2016, 2017, 2018). The RedHawks also made it to the SSAC Conference Tournament finals two of her three seasons, including its first-ever finals appearance in 2016.
"First off, I would like to thank Mr. Zelinski and his amazing staff for choosing me to lead this program," said Mize, who played college basketball at Indiana University. "I truly believe that we can build this women's basketball program back to its winning tradition, both on and off the court.
"I look forward to getting to know the players, campus and Ocala community."
Mize takes over a women's basketball program that went 64-56 (29-19 in conference) over the past four seasons under former coach Tommy Jones. The Lady Patriots secured FCSAA State Tournament spots three of four seasons and clinched a piece of the 2015 Mid-Florida Conference title, its first conference title since 2008.
Zelinski is excited to usher in a new era of Lady Patriot basketball that once garnered state and national accolades as one of the top women's basketball programs under former head coach and FCSAA Hall of Famer Gary Ashlock. Ashlock led CF to five Mid-Florida Conference titles in six years, including two state titles and two NJCAA runner-up finishes.
Mize is excited for the challenge.
"The dawn of the College of Central Florida women's basketball program is coming and I look forward to bringing in future Patriots to continue the excellence that CF is known for."
