Lady Patriots fall to Santa Fe

OCALA-The College of Central Florida women's basketball team had no answers for Santa Fe College on Saturday night.

The Patriots trailed by as many 41 points and fell 87-67 to the Saints at home.

CF was down by 30 at halftime after being outscored 25-7 in the second quarter.

It marked the third consecutive game that the Patriots have fallen behind by at least 15 points in the first half of a conference game.

Unlike the FSC-Jacksonville game which saw CF rally to keep its unbeaten home record intact, the Patriots were unable to get going against the Saints (11-9, 3-1).

CF did manage to outscore the Saints 32-19 behind the play of Marcella Rocha (25 points, five rebounds) during the fourth quarter, but the margin was too much.

The Patriots got as close as 16 in the final quarter.

Mariah Bankhead (13 points, six rebounds) and Kiarah Mallory (11 points) also contributed for CF, who made 48.5 percent of it shots in the second half after making just 20 percent over the opening two quarters.

CF turned the ball over 21 times and was outrebounded 50-36 in the loss.

Santa Fe made 48.4 percent of its shots, aided by a 10-of-22 mark from 3-point range.

The Patriots will try to snap a two-game losing streak when they visit conference rival Hillsborough Community College on Wednesday night at 6.
