OCALA-- The College of Central Florida women's basketball team held off a late charge by Indian River State College on Tuesday evening and won its fourth straight game.
The Patriots (5-2) got four straight free throws over the final 40 seconds from De'Ja Jeffery and some solid defense down the stretch by Charlisa Daniels in a 73-70 win.
After Jeffery's final free throw, the Pioneers (2-5) had a chance to tie, but Daniels did a nice job on IRSC sharpshooter Morgan Evans (26 points) and CF held on.
Thais Oliveira (25 points, 12 rebounds) was dominant for the Patriots. Oliveira scored 12 points after halftime and finished 10-of-20 from the floor.
Tayler Miller added 12 points off the bench for CF, who made 27-of-55 shots and 18-of-24 from the foul line.
The Patriots also forced 23 turnovers and held the Pioneers to 38.2 percent shooting.
IRSC, though, scored 29 points off CF's 22 turnovers and stayed close behind Evans, who made 6-of-8 from 3-point range to start the game, before missing her final three attempts.
CF is now 3-0 at home on the season.
The Patriots will be back on the court tonight as they host Pensacola State. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
