OCALA-- For the second time this season, Thais Oliveira has earned the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Oliveira, who became the first Patriot player to earn state and national player of the week honors since Sarah Hunter two years ago, earned her second POY honor after leading CF to its first 2-0 start in Mid-Florida Conference play since 2009.
Oliveira averaged 25.0 points and 13.0 rebounds for the Patriots this past week in wins over Hillsborough and Santa Fe.
The 6-foot-2 freshman made 22-of-39 from the floor over the course of her two double-doubles.
Oliveira has 10 games this season where she has scored over 20 points in a game.
Along the way, she has 10 games where she has grabbed more than 10 rebounds.
Oliveira also was dominant in the paint with six blocks, according to CF coach Tommy Jones, in the win over Santa Fe.
Over her last three outings, Oliveira has blocked 17 shots.
Led by Oliveira, CF's opponents have made just 26 percent of their field goal attempts in MFC play and have been forced to shoot a whopping 54 shots from 3-point range, five of which have been successful.
Oliveira is thought to be the first CF women's basketball player to earn multiple player of the week honors since the legendary Alberta Auguste during the 2005-06 season.
Auguste went on to star at the University of Tennessee following her career at CF.
Meanwhile, Oliveira is the second CF student-athlete to earn multiple player of the week honors for their respective sport.
Earlier this season, volleyball standout Julymar Otero earned multiple player of the week honors and like Oliveira, was recognized as NJCAA Player of the Week.
