Lady Patriots close out 2014 on a high note

OCALA-- The College of Central Florida women's basketball team earned a pair of wins in Georgia to close out 2014.

After knocking off Georgia Highlands 63-52 on Tuesday, the Patriots defeated nationally-ranked South Georgia Tech 75-64 on New Year's Eve.

In the win over South Georgia Tech , Brittany Grant scored a career-high 25 points thanks to a career-best six 3-pointers, while Quira Demery scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Thais Oliveira contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Sheanna James added nine points, while Marcella Rocha.

CF was down by 12 early, but closed to within one at the half.

The Patriots opened up the second half by outscoring SGT 41-29 over the final 20 minutes.

"It was a good win for us," Patriots coach Tommy Jones said. "Brittany really lit it up for us and played great. We started Sheanna and she played great over the two days. She really gave us what we needed.

"We needed these wins after the loss we had (before the break to Eastern Florida State). Now, we've got to get ready for conference."

In the win Georgia Highlands on Tuesday, Oliveira finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way. Demery (eight points, eight rebounds), James (eight points) and Valerie Hill (seven points) also contributed for CF.

The Patriots led by four at halftime and opened things up down the stretch.

"We started out slow, but we were able top pick it up," Jones said. "We got up by 14 and made the plays that we needed to."

The Lady Patriots open up conference play on Wednesday evening when they host Hillsborough Community College. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
