OCALA-- It's been quite an impressive start to the 2014-2015 regular season for Thais Oliveira.
The 6-foot-2 freshman received her biggest honor to date as a member of the CF women's basketball program on Wednesday when she was named NJCAA Division I National Player of the Week.
She becomes the first CF player to earn national player of the week since Sarah Hunter earned the honor two years ago.
Earlier this week, Oliveira became the first Lady Patriot player to earn state player of the week since Hunter, who signed with Wright State University after leading CF to wins over Santa Fe and Daytona State.
This season, Oliveira has helped the Patriots get off to a 10-3 start, its best since 2009-2010 when they compiled the same mark after 13 games.
Oliveira led CF to a 3-0 record last week, which included an impressive win over then-No. 2 ranked Tallahassee Community College. It was the highest ranked opponent the Patriots have knocked off in over a decade.
Oliveira scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds against TCC in the first win for CF over the Eagles in five years.
From there, Oliveira scored 21 points and dished out six assists in a rout of Eastern Florida State, before she totaled 19 points and 14 rebounds in a road win over St. Petersburg College.
Oliveira will be in action on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. when she and CF host Broward College.
