Lady Patriots defeat St. Pete, go 3-0 on the week

ST. PETERSBURG- The College of Central Florida women's basketball team is on a roll. The Patriots downed St. Petersburg College 62-44 on Saturday afternoon to go 3-0 on the week.

Thais Oilveira (19 points), Quira Demery (12 points), Brittany Grant (11 points) and Briana Mann (10 points) led the way for the Lady Patriots.

"This was a big win for us on their floor," CF coach Tommy Jones said. "I am real proud of the girls. We played at the pace that I wanted us to play at.

"Thais was Thais. She is a stud. Quira really played great for us as well. She has been dominant on the inside grabbing rebounds. She brings a lot of toughness to our team."

The Patriots (10-3) won their fourth straight game and fifth in their last six outings.

CF avenged a home loss to the Titans earlier this season.

"We avenged two of our three losses on the season over the last four days and I am really glad that we were able to redeem ourselves," Jones said.

In the win, CF jumped out to a 31-23 halftime edge, before it pushed its lead to 16 with seven minutes left in the impressive road win over the Titans, a state tournament team a year ago.

With the win, CF is 10-0 when it holds an opponent to less than 60 points.

"I'm very happy with our defense," Jones said .

Meanwhile, the 10-3 start is the best CF has gotten off to since the 2009-2010 season when it also started off at 10-3.

"This has been a good stretch for us," Jones said. "We can now go and get some rest and get ready to get back at it on Thursday."

CF will host Broward College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
