TALLAHASSEE- The College of Central Florida women's basketball dropped a tough one on the road against Tallahassee Community College.
The Patriots (3-1), ranked No. 6 in the state, suffered their first defeat of the season with a 70-62 loss to the No. 4 Eagles in the Veteran's Day Classic.
"The girls played real hard and I am proud of their effort," CF coach Tommy Jones said. "It was a close game. It was a one-possession game with about a minute left and we had to foul.
"We fought and showed a lot of grit."
Brittany Grant led the Patriots with a career-high 23 points, while Thais Oliveira scored 18.
Marcella Rocha played a strong floor game at point guard for the Lady Patriots and scored eight points, while Quira Demery added six.
CF trailed by nine points at halftime, but quickly got it down to four in the second half.
The Patriots stayed close, but couldn't overcome the Eagles (4-0) down the stretch.
The two teams will have a rematch in Ocala in early December.
CF returns to action on Friday night at home against Miami Dade at 6 p.m. From there, the CF men's basketball team will host Hillsborough Community College at 8 p.m.
