OCALA-- Following a tremendous freshman season, Central Florida softball player Jordan Lane received her just reward.
Lane, who earned First Team All-State honors last season as an infielder, recently signed a scholarship with the University of Louisville.
During her freshman year, Lane hit a team-high .374 with six homers and 41 RBI, but was even better in Mid-Florida Conference play with a .423 average. She also had four homers and 18 RBI in conference games.
Her prowess in the MFC enabled her to make MFC First Team All-Conference and helped her become one of three Patriot players to been named the to the All-FCSAA All-State team.
Lane also earned FCSAA State Player of the Week honors for the week of March 11, when she hit .615 after going 8-for-13 in a four-game stretch.
As a freshman, Lane had 15 multi-hit games with a season-high of four hits in a game on two occasions.
She also had eight games where she had multiple RBI efforts, with a season-high of four coming against St. Petersburg College.
The Pasco High School graduate had her biggest moment of this past season at the FCSAA Softball State Tournament.
With CF trailing rival Santa Fe College in the bottom of the seventh inning by one run, Lane blasted a solo homer to left field to tie things up. The Patriots went on to win the game 8-7 in 11 innings and would advance to the national tournament for the first time in school history.
For the tournament, Lane finished with five RBI, but none was bigger than her solo homer that gave CF a chance to erase years of frustration against SFC.
Now a sophomore, Lane will be one of the key players for the Patriots, who are coming off a runner-up finish in the NJCAA National Tournament.
