OCALA-- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team falls 97-94 to Santa Fe College after the Saints drained a buzzer-beating three to win it.
CF went into the half down six and trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half, but the Patriots came marching back in the final minutes.
Freshman Angelo Johnson drained a three-pointer with 39.7 seconds remaining to bring the Patriots to within one point, 93-92.
The Saints led 94-92 in the final seconds, but sophomore Quenton Jackson went to the line with five seconds left and drained both free throws to tie it up 94-94.
Overtime loomed, but SF's Marcus Coleman threw up a hail mary shot and sank the buzzer-beating three to defeat the Patriots.
CF and Santa Fe will have a rematch on Monday night at 8 p.m. as the Patriots host the Saints for the first round of the Mid-Florida Conference playoffs. Winner of CF-SF game will travel to MFC No. 2 Daytona State College on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. for a winner-takes-all match, with the winner securing the second and final state tournament spot. The FCSAA State Basketball Championships will be hosted March 6-9 at the College of Central Florida.
