OCALA—The College of Central Florida men's basketball team extends its win streak to eight with a 80-75 win over Santa Fe College on Wednesday night at Patriot Gym. CF (15-7) remains in first place in the Mid-Florida Conference at 4-0 with the win.
It was a back-and-forth affair on Wednesday night in Ocala. There were 14 lead changes in total on the night.
FCSAA No. 5 CF jumped out to an 11 point lead in the first half, but soon saw the lead disintegrate as the Saints came marching back to take a 37-35 lead into the half.
The Saints held a two-point advantage over the Patriots in the early going of the second half, but CF's fiery press jump-started a Patriot rally. Eight three-pointers, including a late 8-0 run down the stretch, helped the Patriots complete the rally.
CF improves to 6-2 over the Saints in the battle of I-75 over the past three seasons.
The Patriots recorded 14 three-pointers on the night, its third consecutive game with 10 or more threes. CF is currently averaging 11.7 3-pointers per game in conference.
Sophomore guard Quenton Jackson recorded a team-high 21 points on the night, his sixth 20+ point game of the season, while three other Patriot players finished in double figures, including Rifen Miguel who came off the bench to score 11 crucial second-half points and grab six rebounds. Jeremy Sheppard finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and Angelo Johnson added 11 points.
CF men will have the weekend off before returning to action on Wednesday when it hosts conference rival Eastern Florida State College at 7 p.m. Patriots are 1-0 against the defending conference champions this season, defeating the Titans 71-60 on January 5 in Melbourne, Fla.
