OCALA-- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team closed out 2018 on a high note, defeating Polk State College in a New Year's Eve matchup.
CF took a 42-37 lead into halftime and limited Polk to 30 percent shooting from the field in the second half en rout to a 78-69 rout of the Eagles.
Polk edged out the Patriots in shooting percentage from the field and both the Eagles and Patriots were even on total boards, but it was from behind the arc that helped propel the Patriots to victory. CF drained 10 3-pointers for the fourth time this season. The Patriots were led by East Carolina University transfer guard Jeremy Sheppard who was 6-of-8 from behind the arc.
Sheppard finished the afternoon with a season-high 34 points and was 9-for-13 from the field.
CF will be back in action when it travels to Melbourne, Fla. for the Josh Artis Classic, hosted by Eastern Florida State College. The Patriots will take on Harcum College (NY) on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
