OCALA-- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team fell to Broward College on Day 1 of the JUCO Shootout on Saturday night at Patriot Gym.
CF was down by as many as 13 in the first half, but marched back to pull within three at the half. Patriots came out shooting 61 percent from the field in the second half, but it was not enough as the Seahawks dropped 51 second-half points, including several crucial three-pointers down the stretch, to take a 90-82 win over the Patriots. With the loss, CF falls to 7-6, dropping six of its last seven.
As a team, CF finished 50 percent from the field and 55 percent from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Quenton Jackson had a career night, dropping 35 points and grabbing six rebounds. Freshman Jaron Williams added 12 points, while Bryant University transfer Ryan Layman notched his third 10-rebound performance of the season.
CF will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts Pensacola State College on Day 2 of the JUCO Shootout. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Patriot Gym.
