OCALA—The College of Central Florida men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of Chipola College on Friday night at Patriot Gym.
Chipola went on a 9-0 run to open up the game, but the Patriots settled in and came marching back to take a 17-14 in the early going. The Indians countered with a run of their own, shooting 56 percent from the field and knocking down nine three-pointers in the first half to take a 46-38 halftime lead. CF held Chipola to just one three-pointer in the second half, but the Indians held on to win it 93-86. With the loss, CF is now 6-1 on the season.
As a team, CF shot 51 percent from the field on the night and received 35 points from its bench, including a season-high 24 points from Jaron Williams. Sophomore Quenton Jackson (19 pts) and newcomer Angelo Johsnon (14 pts) rounded out the double-digit scoring attack, while Johnson also dished out a season-high eight assists.
CF will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Indian River State College at 6 p.m. Prior to the game, Chipola and DME Academy will tipoff at 4 p.m.
