OCALA--The College of Central Florida men's basketball rally fell short as Daytona State College gave the Patriots its first conference loss of the season on Wednesday night in Daytona.
CF (21-4, 6-1 MFC) went into the half down 40-33, and trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half with four minutes remaining. The Patriots' rally in the waning minutes fell short as Daytona went on to defeat CF 87-85.
Van Turner Jr. knocked down a big 3-pointer with a little over a minute to play to cut the Falcon lead to seven. With nine seconds remaining, Quenton Jackson had a chance to tie the game, but his three-point attempt rimmed out.
Carlos Dotson led the offensive attack with 18 points, while Canberk Kus and Turner Jr. each had 15 points, and Kevin Hunt Jr. added 14. Xzavier Barmore came off the bench to give the Patriots 12 points and Antwall Maxwell grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Patriot basketball team moved up in the state and national polls this week, jumping one spot to No. 2 in the state and No. 14 in the nation.
CF will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Santa Fe College for a conference doubleheader. The ladies will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30.
