OCALA--NJCAA No. 16/ FCSAA No. 3 College of Central Florida men's basketball team won the battle on I-75, defeating Santa Fe College in Gainesville on Wednesday night.
CF (18-3) and Santa Fe entered the night as the only unbeaten teams in the Mid-Florida Conference, but only one could remain perfect.
The Patriots surged out to an early lead and led by as many as seventeen in the early going, but the Saints came marching back to cut CF's lead to five at the half. CF outscored Santa Fe 51-43 in the second half to win it 88-75 and improve to 4-0 in the MFC.
As a team, the Patriots shot 46.5 percent from the field and held the Saints to just 32.5 percent. CF also outrebounded Santa Fe 52-33 in the win.
Carlos Dotson had another career night, recording his sixth double-double of the season with 33 points and 18 rebounds. Xzavier Barmore scored a career-high 21 points on the night and Alexander Oguinn pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds.
CF jumped in the state and national polls this week, moving up one spot to No. 3 in the state and up seven spots to No. 16 in the nation.
Both teams will be back at home on January 27 for a conference doubleheader with Florida-State College at Jacksonville. The ladies will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30.
