TURNER NAMED FCSAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

OCALA-- College of Central Florida men's basketball player Van Turner Jr. was named FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the Dec. 18- Jan. 7 voting period.

Turner averaged 17.8 points per game during the voting period, shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from behind the arc. He helped lead the Patriots to a 3-2 record, including an upset of NJCAA No. 5 Eastern Florida State College. Turner drained eight first-half 3-pointers and finished with 27 points in the win. 

At the Fiesta Bowl JUCO Shootout in Mesa, Ariz., Turner knocked down a program-best 10 3-pointers in the win against Snow College on Dec. 30. Turner finished the night with 32 points. 

As a team, the Patriots held steady at No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll and dropped to No. 23 in the national poll.

CF will return to the court for a conference doubleheader on Saturday when they host Daytona State College. The women will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30.
