OCALA--College of Central Florida men's basketball team went 1-2 at the Fiesta Bowl JUCO Shootout in Mesa, Ariz. this past weekend.

NJCAA No. 15 Central Florida Patriots (13-3) faced two NJCAA Top 5 teams in Indian Hills Community College (#3) and Salt Lake Community College (#4) before closing out the weekend against Snow College at the shootout hosted by Mesa Community College.

CF suffered its first back-to-back losses on the season, falling 91-62 loss to Indian Hills on Thursday (28th) and dropping an 81-77 contest to Salt Lake on Friday (29th). The Patriots rebounded on the final day with an 81-77 win against Snow. 

Carlos Dotson had a strong showing for the Patriots, scoring 51 points and grabbing 29 rebounds on the weekend. Dotson also recorded two double-doubles in three games to bring his season total to four.

Van Turner exploded for 32 points in the win against Snow College and knocked down a career-high 10 three-pointers. Turner set a Fiesta Bowl Tournament and CF record for most three-pointers made in a single game.

"It was a great experience for our guys to play some of the best teams in the country," said head coach Tim Ryan. "We learned a lot about ourselves that will help us in our upcoming conference play."

The Patriots will open up 2018 with one last non-conference game against Hillsborough Community College on January 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Patriot Gym.

Then starts the ever-tough Mid-Florida Conference schedule. 

CF will open up conference play on Saturday, January 6 against conference newcomer NJCAA No. 5 Eastern Florida State College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
