OCALA--The College of Central Florida men's basketball team jumps to No. 4 in the state in this week's FCSAA Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll after a strong showing at the Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout over the weekend.
NJCAA No. 25 CF (11-1) jumped one spot in the rankings after going 2-0 during the Dec. 4-10 voting period. The Patriots picked up big wins over NJCAA No. 23 Gulf Coast State College (106-76) and Miami Dade College (105-94).
The FCSAA Men's Basketball Top 5 is as follows: (1) Northwest Florida State, (2) Eastern Florida State, (3) Florida SouthWestern, (4) Central Florida, (5) Tallahassee. The NJCAA rankings will be released later this week.
As a team, the Patriots' offense ranks top 3 in the state in field goal percentage per game (49.2) and rebounds per game (49.3), while ranking top 5 in total points per game (91.8). On defense, CF is holding opponents to an average of 36 percent or less shooting from the field, with only conference opponent Eastern Florida holding opponents to less.
CF will finish out 2017 on the road at Polk State College on Thursday before traveling to Mesa, Az. for the Fiesta Bowl JUCO Shootout Dec. 28-30. The Patriots will be back at home on Jan. 3 when they host Hillsborough Community College at 7:30 p.m.
