OCALA--The College of Central Florida basketball program is dominating the FCSAA Player of the Week awards.
For the first time in recent history, the Patriots claimed both the men's and women's player of the week honors in the same week.
Thais Oliveira earned women's player of the week for the second consecutive week and is thought to be the only CF women's player in school history to accomplish this feat. Oliveira has now earned state player of the week on four occasions during her career, also believed to be a CF record.
On the men's side, Kevin (K.J.) Maura earned his second player of the week honor of the season.
Maura is the first CF player to earn multiple player of the week honors in a single season since Ricardo Ratliffe.
This past week, the standout point guard averaged 17.0 points, 9.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds. He added 3.3 steals and made 58.6 percent of his shots.
Maura also knocked down 60 percent from 3-point range, as CF went 2-1 at the Fisher's Technology Inviational, which included a defeat of NJCAA No. 21 College of Southern Idaho.
Oliveira, an East Carolina signee, averaged 25.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in three games this past week. She made 62.9 percent of her shots.
Along the way, she scored a career-high 34 points in a win over Eastern Florida State, as CF avenged one of its early losses. Oliveira's previous career high was 29 points at CF. In all, she made 16-of-20 shots and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over EFS.
From there, she was strong against Panhandle Conference foes Gulf Coast State and Chipola.
Against Gulf Coast, the state's No. 1 ranked team, she finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds and followed that up with 21 points and 10 rebounds against defending national champion Chipola.
