Men's Basketball defeats Indian River

OCALA--The College of Central Florida men's basketball team won its fifth game in a row and improved to 6-0 at home in the process, as they defeated Indian River State 79-73.

The Patriots (6-2) led by as many as 16 and held off a late charge by the Pioneers, as they avenged one of their two losses on the season.

Eddy Polanco (18 points, five assists), Devaughn Jenkins (15 points, 10 rebounds), Malik Dunbar (13 points, seven rebounds) and K.J. Maura (12 points, six assists, four steals) led CF.

Along the way, the Patriots built a 10-point halftime lead, as they held a 10-rebound edge over the opening 20 minutes.

This was a stark contrast from the first meeting, which saw IRSC (5-2) hold a double-digit edge on the boards.

From there, CF went up by 14, but saw the Pioneers close to within four.

The Patriots, though, hit IRSC with a 10-0 run and regained momentum.

IRSC got to within six during the final minute of the game, but CF held on.

CF made 15-of-19 at the foul line and ended with a 42-40 edge on the glass.

The Patriots shook off a 6-of-25 mark from 3-point range and held the Pioneers to 7-of-29 from beyond the arc. CF also forced 19 turnovers and scored 18 points off the miscues by IRSC.
