OCALA--The College of Central Florida men's basketball team won its fifth game in a row and improved to 6-0 at home in the process, as they defeated Indian River State 79-73.
The Patriots (6-2) led by as many as 16 and held off a late charge by the Pioneers, as they avenged one of their two losses on the season.
Along the way, the Patriots built a 10-point halftime lead, as they held a 10-rebound edge over the opening 20 minutes.
This was a stark contrast from the first meeting, which saw IRSC (5-2) hold a double-digit edge on the boards.
From there, CF went up by 14, but saw the Pioneers close to within four.
The Patriots, though, hit IRSC with a 10-0 run and regained momentum.
IRSC got to within six during the final minute of the game, but CF held on.
CF made 15-of-19 at the foul line and ended with a 42-40 edge on the glass.
The Patriots shook off a 6-of-25 mark from 3-point range and held the Pioneers to 7-of-29 from beyond the arc. CF also forced 19 turnovers and scored 18 points off the miscues by IRSC.
