OCALA--The College of Central Florida men's basketball team opened up the 2015-16 season in dominant fashion.
The Patriots placed four players in double figures, spearheaded by 13 assists from point guard K.J. Maura in an 87-62 win over ASA-Miami College on Friday night.
CF (1-0) was led by Malik Dunbar's 20 points off the bench.
Eddy Polanco (19 points, 11 rebounds, six assists), Devaughn Jenkins (12 points, 6-of-8 shooting) and Nakia Rivers (11 points) also scored in double digits for CF, who made 34-of-63 shots, aided by a 9-of-20 mark from 3-point range.
The Patriots used a 10-0 run late in the first half, as they held the Silver Storm without a field goal for a span of over six minutes and went into halftime up 42-32.
Maura had nine assists before halftime and controlled the game throughout.
From there, CF kept the pressure on and led by as many as 30 points in the rout.
Led by Dunbar and Rivers, the Patriots saw their reserves outscore ASA's subs 40-14.
CF held the Silver Storm to 31.3 percent shooting and ended with a 46-39 edge on the glass.
The Patriots will be back in action tonight at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts St. Petersburg College. Those who wear a costume to the game will receive free admission.
The game between the Patriots and Titans is a rematch of last year's quarterfinal game from the state tournament in Ocala, won by SPC. Prior to that, CF had won 10 straight against the Titans.
