OCALA- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team couldn't get over the hump against Daytona State on Wednesday night.
The Patriots fell behind by as many as 18 points in the second half, before they closed to within four. DSC, though, made the plays down the stretch and earned an 83-73 win at Patriot Gym.
With the win, the Falcons clinched the No. 1 seed from the Mid-Florida Conference for the NJCAA/FCSAA Region VIII Tournament.
A win by DSC over Santa Fe on the road on Saturday and it would clinch the conference title outright and force CF to play in the MFC Tournament for the second bid from the league to the postseason.
However, a loss by DSC to Santa Fe and win by CF over FSC-J and the league would have co-conference champs. The Patriots would be the No. 2 seed by virtue of losing the season series to DSC.
On Wedensday, CF led only once at 3-2 and fell at home for the second time this season to the Falcons.
CF made all 20 of its free throws in the second half and hit 22-of-23 for the game, but DSC had too much from Tanksley Efianayi, who scored 23 of his game-high 32 points after halftime.
Efianayi made 17-of-20 from the foul line and the Falcons hit 30-of-38 as a team.
Kendrick Thompson (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Wesley Alcegaire (16 points, 10 rebounds) also had solid games for DSC.
The Falcons limited CF to 17.9 percent shooting from 3-point range (5-of-28) and 34.3 percent overall.
Rogers contributed seven assists, while Devaughn Jenkins finished with nine rebounds for CF.
