Patriots down Manatees, get ready for JUCO shootout

SARASOTA- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team turned up the defense in a rout of State College of Florida-Manatee on Tuesday night.

The Patriots (10-4) forced 23 turnovers and rolled to an 86-60 win over the Manatees on the road.

CF has now won seven straight games over SCF over the last three seasons. This time around, they frustrated the Manatees throughout the night.

"We played well on defense and got a lot of layups in transition," Patriots assistant coach Tito Arias said.

For the Patriots, Miguel Cartagena Reyes knocked down five shots from 3-point range and led the team with 21 points.

CF also got solid games from Terrell Rogers (14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists), Corbyn Jackson (13 points, seven rebounds) and Diamonte Lewis (10 points, four rebounds).

The Patriots led 41-30 at halftime and continued the onslaught over the final 20 minutes.

CF will now get ready for a big end to the week starting on Friday night when it hosts Palm Beach State at 7:30.

From there, the Patriots will host the Florida Men's Colleges Shootout beginning on Saturday.

Up first for CF in the event is Indian River State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The big matchup of the weekend takes place the following night when the Patriots host Northwest Florida State on Sunday night at 6 p.m.

The CF-NWFS game is a rematch of both the state and national championship games won by the Patriots back in 2013.

The Raiders are currently ranked No. 1 in the state, while CF is No. 9.
